I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without it
Artshack is where I truly grew into myself as an artist. What started with making paper in a Brooklyn backyard became the foundation of a creative path that has carried me all the way to studying ceramics at Howard University. Artshack gave me confidence, community, and a sense of belonging at a formative time in my life. The encouragement I received there shaped not only my artistic skills, but the way I see art as a way to connect, express, and evolve. I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without it.

You can feel the dimensions
A picture is no good because it's a flat surface, but ceramics is three dimensional. You can feel it, you can feel the dimensions. Clay has it's own personality-maybe a crack will happen, and then you're trying to repair the crack, and it's angry because the crack will come back. And then it looks good, and so you put it in the kiln to fire it, and what do you know, the crack comes back.

Opportunities Like This Are Vital
The Arshack Ceramic Residency played a significant role in shaping my artistic journey. Participating in my first solo ceramic exhibition was a truly transformative milestone. It allowed me to build meaningful connections, work closely with the community, collaborate, work as a TA, and lead workshops that deepened my engagement with others through art. The residency provided an essential platform for me to strengthen and expand my ceramic techniques, marking an important step forward in my practice. The residency offered invaluable resources, materials, and support that greatly contributed to my artistic development. I believe that opportunities like this are vital and can profoundly benefit many emerging artists seeking to grow and refine their craft and practice
