The work:
The inspiration for this piece comes from the hierarchy of basic color terminology. All languages, across cultures, show consistent patterns in color term development. Color terminology begins with simple light and dark. Progressively, languages include red, blue, yellow, green, and so on. From left to right, this piece reflects this genesis of color terms, how they are incorporated, and the surprisingly universal aspects of human perception. The result is a physical interpretation of how language and culture influence our perception of color and, more broadly, the world.
Dimensions:
15" x 3" x 3"
