The work:
This piece is a take on a form I have come back to several times -- this iteration is cracked open and melting in on itself. I was interested in the idea of being lit from within, the vitality of clay, and a little bit of destruction.
Dimensions:
22" × 11" × 11"
The artist:
Alex Baren is a New York-based ceramic artist exploring themes of lineage and balance through his sculptural vessels. His studio practice is informed by functional pottery traditions, ancient forms, and juxtaposed ceramic approaches, resulting in work that hovers between tradition and modernity, roughness and delicacy.
