The work:
Xhigagueta Yaachi is a golden jicara sculpture by Ana Hernandez reflecting on the replacement of natural elements with plastic. Traditionally, jicaras, referring to both a cup and a goud in Spanish, were used in Ana's village to store various daily items such as seeds, jewelry, fruits and flowers.

The artist:
Ana Hernández is a visual artist from Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, born in 1991. Her practice centers on the awareness and recuperation of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec’s traditional garments, utilizing her surroundings and her interest in phenomena such as migration, geography, and identity. These interests have emerged from her personal experiences and her move towards community-based knowledge exchange.
